Manufacturing

Manufacturing in Grey County is thriving. In 2023, the sector employed 2,739 individuals, making up 5.99% of the total labor force, with a regional unemployment rate of 5.3%.

As a wealth-producing sector, manufacturing plays a crucial role in the local economy, contributing significantly to job creation and economic stability.

Part of its success is due to the incredible workforce and the reasonable cost of doing business in rural Ontario. Manufacturing is also supported by major organizations such as the Excellence in Manufacturing Consortium (EMC), which was founded in Owen Sound and now serves the sector nationwide.

The region is also attracting new Bruce Power suppliers and establishing an advanced manufacturing niche. Other manufacturing specializations include wood furniture, printing, packaging, mining equipment, and metal fabrication.

Top employers include Transcontinental Printing, Hobart Food Equipment Group Canada, Viking-Cives, Ltd and Chapman's Ice Cream.
